haha i like it but not a lot

… i dont like it.

So we were holding out hope that things would look better to be able to go to the rescheduled Huntsville con next month. But obviously they are not, things are worse here where we are. So last night we canceled our hotel. Going to see if we can roll our tickets to next year, if not… we’ll just take the hit.

I’m sad! Now we have no cons this year at all. I’ve been basing my entire adult life around conventions and trips and without those things… what am I supposed to be doing? I haven’t had a summer in 18 years where I wasn’t working on Dragoncon costumes, even the summer of 2016, I at least made 1 new dcon costume that summer.

As for local cons later this year… we’d already decided to take a year off MCFC, so even if that happens we aren’t going. MCX on the fence about, wait and see.

Anyway I came over to make a post about new costume pictures, not whining.

First up here’s the new ceremonial Leia:

And of course I have to do a spin. I’m sure Chase would be perfectly happy to never hear “I’m going to do a spin now” ever again.

And pics of the Poe Dameron comic Leia:

So I’ll have costume pages up for those 2 soon, plus Marasiah Fel and the new Padme nightgown after we shoot those this weekend. And my Dapper Day Dale before I forget its construction.

And here’s a couple of the new Ewok Leia pics:

Like I said in the last post, I need to actually finish ceremonial Leia. I did absolutely ZERO sewing in the last week – the push to finish ceremonial Leia to get it wearable wore me out… and since I’m not going anywhere who cares. I’ll get to it in the next couple of weeks.

Last tuesday I went and got this giant mess taken care of:

I hadn’t had the colour done since before Dragoncon LAST year. Couple of cuts in between, but I decided to hold off on colour refresh until right before our disney trip and then of course that didn’t happen. I thought several times about just doing it at home but Frankie said wait — he’s been planning this red for me since the beginning of the year and it would be better if I didn’t have a box dye on it.

Where’s my screaming face emoji because OMG I love it. Worth the wait!!!

I feel like myself again. I was really hating my hair the last couple of months. (And don’t worry, salon was mostly empty and we wore masks the whole time – I was there mostly after hours)

Thursday I decided to try some Merida curls:

Because Friday I had to go up and stay the night at the rehab hospital with Mema again and I thought it’d be fun to surprise her with giant red hair LOL.

She was much improved again and really didn’t want me helping her with anything LOL. I slept much better this time around – took my own pillow.

Went home the back way. Had to get my hoodie off at one point so in Brownsville I pulled over in front of my fav spots in West TN to take it off, and also get a pic.

Just like last time I try to go home “the back way” my GPS took me an incredibly funky way, I dunno why I trusted it, but instead of taking me down through Arlington to home, it took me all the way out by Covington and by my parents house. Supposedly this was the quickest non-interstate route but I think it added a half hour onto my trip. It took me just under 2 hours to get home when it should’ve only been an hour and a half at most.

One more story about the drive home… when I started out leaving the hospital, I set my GPS and picked the non-interstate route and of course Google Maps kept trying to force me back to the interstate anyway. I tried to force it to change by just going the way I knew, which was through Humboldt TN. I stopped and got a ham croissant at Burger King there. My granddad used to work in Humboldt, and when Mema and I would go up to his office for the day, she’d stop and get me a ham croissant at BK. So driving through Humboldt, with the smell of a ham croissant in the car, it just took me riiiiiiiiight back. Then I got to downtown Humboldt which looks straight out of Stranger Things… and the movie theater marquis was advertising they were showing Back to the Future. What a trip.

Anyway, got home, took a nap, and then went and picked up Kevin for a socially distanced birthday party. His bday was this past week, and he didn’t get to go to his fav summer camp this year, so we wanted to do something for him.

We took him to Nana’s to swim. BTW that red inner tube is ENORMOUS. I bought it on clearance at target last year (speaking of Stranger things, it’s a Hawkins community pool float). It was like $5 and I didn’t get to use it last year. Got it out to pump up before we left and it was way bigger than I thought it was going to be. Could barely get it in the car!

Then we had pizza and birthday cake courtesy Nana and Kristie.

Yesterday did a whole lot of nothing. Was supposed to do yardwork but didn’t. Will do it this week – it’s only a 3 day work week for me so we’ve got yardwork planned for Thursday. A Joann trip as well – Chase needs new shorts, and since I have that pants pattern that fits him well, I decided to just let him pick out some fabric and I’d make him some shorts. Since I don’t have Dragoncon costume projects due. And we’re doing another photoshoot this weekend – Padme nightgown, Marasiah Fel, and Padme lake dress for sure. If he lets me do 4 costumes I’m going to do Hera, too.

One last note… I’ve gotten a lot of really nice feedback on my Padme project on instagram lately. And several people ask if I’ll be doing more. I stopped at 100 because it was a nice even number. But I did still have a couple of Clone Wars I left out, and still had a handful of concept art I hadn’t touched. And now that I’m reading Queen’s Peril I started marking the pages where Padme’s costumes were described… I may try to do those as well. 120 sounds like another good even number, right? It’ll be a bit before I get to it, I’m still slogging through website updates, but once I get those done, I’m going to go back to the Padme Project.
